4 Ways in Which New Windows Save You Money

4 Ways in Which New Windows Save You Money

Vinyl replacement windows may seem like a costly expense, but overtime the loss of heat and cool air accompanied by high energy bills will definitely outweigh the cost of replacing them. Overtime, weather will cause your windows to expand and contract, putting their integrity to the test. As our Western Pennsylvania summer will soon transition into the long Appalachian winter, the remodeling professionals at C&C Building Supplies can agree there is no better time than now to replace your old windows.

The Highs and Lows. If your windows aren’t open and you still feel a breeze, you should replace your windows! If you’re A/C unit is running nonstop during the summer or the invading winter air is causing your furnace to run continuously, your windows aren’t doing a good job insulating your home. In turn, you’re not saving any cash since you’re spending your money on rising energy costs.

ACHOO! Allergens. The caulking and weather stripping used to seal windows will also give way to the fluctuating temperatures. If you suffer from seasonal allergies, expect to spend more time sneezing – and in the doctor’s office! Tiny cracks and crumbling adhesives are a convenient way for allergens to sneak in.

Bugs, Mold and Moisture.  Splintering adhesives around your old windows opens the door to a slew of pests and outside elements, like spiders and rain water. And it’s no surprise dark, wet places further perpetuate the growth of more unwanted pests and molds. If someone in your house has asthma or lung issues or you plan on selling your home, its best to replace your windows immediately and remedy the mold problem altogether. While it may seem like a large expense, it comes with long-term benefits.

Decreased Energy Cost = Increased Home Value. Ah ha! What every homeowner wants to hear. If you’re planning to sell your home, replacement windows can increase your asking price to about 70% of the cost of replacing. Simply put, if you pay $10,000 for new windows, plan on adding an extra $7,000 to your asking price. On the other hand, if you are looking for a new home, spend the extra $7K and buy the one that has new windows. It will save you a lot of headache in the end!

While your older windows are still operating just fine, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t replace them. If you notice an increase in your energy usage, recurring allergy flare-ups, creepy crawlers or mold spores, talk to one of the window experts at C&C Building Supplies about replacing them. All of our vinyl replacement windows are made local in Western Pennsylvania and many can be found right in our showroom!

How Do Retractable Awnings Work?

How Do Retractable Awnings Work?

As midsummer approaches, longer days mean more time relaxing and entertaining on your patio or deck. However if your outdoor space is exposed to the sun and the elements, it might send you and your guests running for cover. If you’ve invested your time and money into creating an inviting outdoor space, but find yourself retreating to the indoors when it’s too hot or rainy, may be its time to consider a retractable awning.

This month, the building experts at C&C Building Supplies shed light on how retractable awnings work and why you should consider installing one.

Automatic & Gas Cylinder Awnings.
Automatic awnings are retracted automatically by a motor. Most models come with a remote control and in the event of a power outage, can be manually overridden. Telescopic arms with gas-filled cylinders are available and typically found in retractable awnings for smaller patios. These require a bit more maintenance as the mini gas tanks will need refilled and could occasionally leak.

**None of our awnings have gas cylinders so please omit that part.

If you live in Western Pennsylvania, it’s hard to tell which way the wind will blow! On days of high heat or heavy rain, your uncovered deck or patio is most likely left unused. Contact C&C Building Supplies and speak to one of our knowledgeable sales professionals about installing a retractable awning today!
